Del 10% al 15% de las mujeres que dan a luz experimentan, en los meses sucesivos, trastornos depresivos m\u00e1s o menos graves, que inciden negativamente tanto en su salud como en su relaci\u00f3n con el reci\u00e9n nacido, pudiendo afectar al desarrollo afectivo y cognitivo del ni\u00f1o.39 Se trata de la <strong>depresi\u00f3n posparto<\/strong>, que no debe confundirse con el llamado <em><strong>baby blues<\/strong><\/em>, una condici\u00f3n fisiol\u00f3gica transitoria de cansancio e inestabilidad emocional que se produce inmediatamente despu\u00e9s del parto, y que suele superarse espont\u00e1neamente en diez o 15 d\u00edas. La verdadera depresi\u00f3n posparto se puede manifestar incluso tres meses despu\u00e9s del parto, persiste una media de tres a seis meses y, en el 25-30% de los casos, un a\u00f1o o s\u00edntomas m\u00e1s caracter\u00edsticos son: ansiedad, tristeza, abatimiento, miedo a hacer da\u00f1o al beb\u00e9 y preocupaci\u00f3n injustificada por su salud, trastornos del sue\u00f1o, p\u00e9rdida del apetito, sentimiento de culpa e ineptitud. Es una patolog\u00eda multifactorial, es decir, depende de la convergencia de diferentes factores: la predisposici\u00f3n a sufrir trastornos depresivos, problemas de salud de la madre o el ni\u00f1o, los cambios hormonales del puerperio, la falta de apoyo social, problemas econ\u00f3micos o la mala relaci\u00f3n con la pareja o con familiares.<\/p>\n<p>Para combatir la depresi\u00f3n posparto es preciso actuar r\u00e1pidamente en todos estos frentes. En primer lugar, la pareja y las personas cercanas a la mam\u00e1 que sufre depresi\u00f3n deben ayudarla en el cuidado del ni\u00f1o y aligerar su carga de trabajo, para que tenga tiempo de descansar. Las visitas a domicilio por parte de matronas en las semanas posteriores al parto, as\u00ed como la asistencia a grupos de ayuda, infunden seguridad y mitigan el estr\u00e9s. De todas formas, en los casos m\u00e1s graves, es necesario recurrir a un especialista.<\/p>\n<p>Sin embargo, la depresi\u00f3n posparto, como tantas enfermedades, se puede prevenir en gran parte. A menudo, las mujeres que manifiestan trastornos depresivos despu\u00e9s del nacimiento del ni\u00f1o ya los sufr\u00edan durante el embarazo, aunque de manera m\u00e1s sutil. La ansiedad, el aislamiento social, los conflictos familiares y los problemas de salud de la madre o del futuro beb\u00e9 constituyen otros precursores de la depresi\u00f3n posparto que deber\u00edan alertar a la mujer, a las personas que la rodean y a los profesionales sanitarios que la asisten.
